cool cate
This month's Economist Intelligent Life magazine features actress, theatre boss, mother, and all around cool lady Cate Blanchett on their cover sans Photoshop. I find the cover to be incredibly refreshing and although the editor disclaimer is entirely unecessary (why does one have to explain not manipulating an image) I still commend the magazine for doing something like this. She looks great. Let's hope this starts a trend!

neko case's kitchen
I love Neko Case (she has one of the most beautiful voices) and now I think I love her house just as much. Featured in the most recent Country Living magazine, it seems like a nice place to call home. 225 year old farmhouse! Piano in the kitchen! Bookshelf wallpaper! Heirloom garden! That sweet dog! What's not to love?
And here's one of my favorite songs:

muun bags
Muun is a Parisian atelier that works with the women of Nygaria, a tiny village in Ghana to make the most gorgeous bags. Hand-woven and hand-dyed using traditional herbs, the bags are sent to Paris where they add fabrics, leather, and ribbons to produce beautiful bags. I've seen them in person, they're pretty amazing.

how amazing are these vintage loafers?!
if they were my size i would snatch them up in a second to fulfill my dreams of being a french ingenue in a jean godard film. can't you imagine anna karina dancing around paris in these?

everything else in this store is also equally fantastic. and i don't say that just because the girls who run it are two of my bestest friends either :)

haircute
lately it seems like there are cute bob and pixie haircuts everywhere i turn. perhaps it's part of clean 40s prep menswear look that a lot of girls are embracing. or maybe it's the influence of the inevitable return to grunge. whatever the reason, i'm loving the look.
i would love to be one of those cute girls too but that would require me to have completely different hair and a real hair care regimen other than my super sophisticated wash and air dry routine, something i can't be bothered with. and the last time i tried it, i looked like an moon faced boy who stood too close to one of those static balls in the science museum.
but one can dream of that perfectly tousled feminine tomboy cool these girls effortlessly exude.

first cupcakes, then moonpies...
could homemade pop tarts be the next big food thing?
i sure hope so. it's like a hand pie, but more fun. and just think of all the sweet and savory possibilities, fresh peach, strawberry rhubarb, bacon/spinach/swiss!
LA's nickel diner was the first place to blow my mind with their delicious mixed berry version.
and now smitten kitchen has a recipe for NUTELLA ones!!!
i'm gonna make these RIGHT NOW. what kind will you make?

happiest high-fives ever
While driving back to where we were staying with Warren and Bryan in Memphis for the night, I spied, in my little eye, a polar bear statue. That, in itself, was an exciting discovery, but even more exciting was that he was throwing snowballs. AND he was there to advertise ice cream. AND! Even though the ice cream place was gone, the bear was still there, and now he draws attention to a pawn shop. Thank you, polar bear friend. Keep the ice-cream-shoppe-snowball-in-the-south dream alive. We'll never forget you.
